Etymology

Perhaps from Sanskrit তিগ্ম (tigma, sharp, pungent, hot) or from Sanskrit তক্ৰ (takra, buttermilk with a third part of water). Cognate with Sylheti ꠐꠦꠋꠉꠣ (ṭeṅga), compare Bengali টক (ṭok).
