Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit *𑀟𑀡𑁆𑀟 (*ḍaṇḍa), from Sanskrit दण्ड (daṇḍa) with assimilation. Cognate to Hindi डंडा (ḍaṇḍā), Punjabi ਡੰਡਾ (ḍaṇḍā)
