Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian مَاهجَبِین (māh-jabīn, literally “moon-like forehead”), from ماه (māh, “moon”) + Arabic جبين (jabīn, “forehead”). The intial e-vowel forms came via an intermediate Hindustani مہجبین / महजबीन (mah-jabīn), which often vocalizes the cluster ah as êh.
