[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian روزه (rōza, “fast”), from Middle Persian [script needed] (rōzag, “fasting”), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *ráwčakah. Compare Assamese ৰোজা (rüza), Hindustani روزہ (roza) / रोज़ा (rozā), Gujarati રોજો (rojo), Marathi रोजा (rojā), Punjabi ਰੋਜਾ (rojā), Sylheti ꠞꠥꠎꠣ (ruza).
