Borrowed from Classical Persian روزه (rōza, fast), from Middle Persian [script needed] (rōzag, fasting), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *ráwčakah. Compare Assamese ৰোজা (rüza), Hindustani روزہ (roza) / रोज़ा (rozā), Gujarati રોજો (rojo), Marathi रोजा (rojā), Punjabi ਰੋਜਾ (rojā), Sylheti ꠞꠥꠎꠣ (ruza).
