Inherited from Middle Bengali শুকটি (śukṭi), from Old Bengali সুকটি (sukaṭi), from Prakrit 𑀲𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀺 (sukkaṭṭi), feminine form of 𑀲𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀝𑁆𑀝 (sukkaṭṭa), from 𑀲𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀓 (sukka) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀝𑁆𑀝𑁆- (-ṭṭ-), from Sanskrit शुष्क (śuṣka). Cognate with Sylheti ꠢꠥꠐꠇꠤ (huṭki), Assamese শুকটি (xukoti), Odia ସୁକ୍ଟୀ (sukṭi), Hindi सुक्टी (sukṭī), Nepali सुकुटि (sukuṭi). Doublet of শুষ্ক (śuśko), শুখা (śukha), শুষা (śuśa), শোষণ (śōśon), and খুশকি (khuśoki).
