Etymology 1[edit]

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀲𑀸𑀕𑀭 (sāgara), 𑀲𑀸𑀬𑀭 (sāyara), from Sanskrit सागर (sāgara). Doublet of ਸਾਗਰੁ (sāgaru). Cognate with Old Marathi 𑘭𑘰𑘧𑘨 (sāyara).
