Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀔𑀁𑀟𑀸 (khaṃḍā), from Sanskrit खण्डु (khaṇḍu), from a substrate language.[1] Cognate with Bengali খাঁড় (khãṛ), Hindustani کھانڑ / खाँड़ (khā̃ṛ), Marathi and Marwari खांड (khāṇḍ), Sindhi کنڊ (khanḍu).
