[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Gujarati चौमासउं (caumāsaüṃ), from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀘𑀤𑀼𑀫𑀸𑀲 (*cadumāsa), from Sanskrit चतुर्मास (caturmāsa), a compound of चतुर् (catur) + मास (māsa); literally, “four months” as the monsoon season lasts from June through September in India. Doublet of ચતુર્માસ (caturmās). Cognate with Marathi चौमास (ċaumās), Hindi and Nepali चौमासा (caumāsā), Rajasthani चोमासो (comāso), and Sindhi چَوْماسو / चौमासो (caumāso).
