Inherited from Old Gujarati [Term?] (compare Old Hindi मसीति (masīti), Old Marathi 𑘦𑘭𑘲𑘝𑘲 (masītī), Old Punjabi ਮਸੀਤਿ (masīti), likely from the same source), from Classical Persian مسجد (masjiḏ), from Arabic مَسْجِد (masjid). Doublet of મસ્જિદ (masjid) and મસીદ (masīd). Cognate with Punjabi مسیت / ਮਸੀਤ (masīt).
