Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀼𑀟 (kukkuḍa), from Sanskrit कुक्कुट (kukkuṭá), of onomatopoeic origin. Cognate with Assamese কুকুৰা (kukura), Bengali কুঁকড়া (kũkoṛa), Hindi कुकड़ा (kukṛā) and Nepali कुखुरा (kukhurā).
