Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *paẓam (fruit), Cognate with Tamil பழம் (paḻam), Kannada ಹಣ್ಣು (haṇṇu), Malayalam പഴം (paḻaṁ), Telugu పండు (paṇḍu).
