Probably derived from Sanskrit कर्ष (karṣa) Cognate with Tamil காசு (kācu), Kannada ಕಾಸು (kāsu), Malayalam കാശ് (kāśŭ), Toda கோஸ் (kōs), Tulu ಕಾಸ್ (kāsŭ), Gondi కాసు (kāsu). Not related to English cash (Etymology 1).
