A Malayalam diacritic for (ya) called കീയക്കൂട്ടം or വീച്ചിൽ, when appended to a constant, it can indicate a conjunct consonant followed by /ja/ or palatalization in some cases.

  • This grapheme is appended to the right side of a consonant, it changes the syllable from /◌ɐ/ to /◌jɐ/ or palatalize the consonant if appended to any of the following or the geminate of the following consonants (ka), (ṅa), റ്റ (ṟṟa), (ṉa), (na), (ra), (la), (ḷa), (ḻa), (ṟa).

e.g. സി (IPA:/si/) becomes സ്യി (IPA:/syi)
