Etymology

Borrowed from Pali kīḷā (“sport; play”). Compare กรีฑา (grii-taa, “athletics”), which is from Sanskrit क्रीडा (krīḍā). Cognate with Khmer កីឡា (kəylaa), Lao ກີລາ (kī lā) or ກິລາ (ki lā), Northern Thai ᨠᩦᩊᩣ.
