[edit]From ขนม (kà-nǒm, “snack; dessert; sweet food; etc”) + เข่ง (kèng, “basket”); from the fact that, traditionally, the paste to be made into this cake is poured into baskets made of banana leaves and placed on a larger basket before being steamed.[1]
