[edit]From Sanskrit ग्रीष्म (grīṣma, “summer”) + आयन (āyana, “coming; belonging to solstice”); equivalent to Thai ครีษม + อายัน; possibly calque of English summer solstice; coined by Royal Society of Thailand.
