ปฏิทิน

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Thai

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Pali paṭidina (“day by day; daily”), from paṭi (“against; towards”) + dina (“day”); ultimately from Sanskrit प्रतिदिन (pratidina), whence Thai ประติทิน.

By surface analysis, ปฏิ (bpà-dtì-) +‎ ทิน (tin).

Cognate with Khmer បដិទិន (paʼdetɨn), ប្រតិទិន (prɑtetɨn); Lao ປະຕິທິນ (pa ti thin); Burmese ပြက္ခဒိန် (prakhka.din).
