Borrowed from Sanskrit वीणा (vīṇā) or Pali vīṇā. Cognate with Northern Thai ᨻᩥ᩠ᨱ, ᩅᩦᨱᩣ, Lao ພິນ (phin), ວີນາ (wī nā), Khmer ពិណ (pɨn).
