[edit]From มื้อ (mʉ́ʉ, “day”) + an element รือ (rʉʉ, “day after tomorrow”), which is from Proto-Tai *C̬.rɯːᴬ (“day after tomorrow”).[1] รือ (rʉʉ) became รืน (rʉʉn), which has final /-n/ added, due to assimilation with นี้ (níi, “this”) as in มะรืนนี้.[2][3]
Cognate with Isan มื้อฮือ (mɯɯ⁵ hɯɯ⁴), Lao ມື້ຮື (mư̄ hư̄), Shan မိူဝ်ႈႁိုဝ်း (mōe húe).
