[edit]From Proto-Southwestern Tai *kʰwiːᴮ (“to ride”), from Middle Chinese 騎 (MC gje, “to ride”).[1] Cognate with Thai ขี่ (kìi), Lü ᦃᦲᧈ (ẋii¹), Tai Dam ꪄꪲ꪿, Shan ၶီႇ (khìi), Ahom 𑜁𑜣 (khī), Zhuang gwih.
