Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (lip "roll up, curl, be turned, as an edge"). Luce gives Old Chinese 衽 (OC *njɯms, “overlapping part of Chinese gown; skirts, flaps”) as a potential cognate.[1] Alternatively, perhaps derived from Etymology 2, as rolled-up scrolls were common mediums of writing (MED separates these two senses, though). However, Indic loans in Burmese appear to be mostly nouns and not verbs. Note also strong resemblance to Old Chinese 疊 (OC *l'ɯːb, “to fold in layers”).”
