Etymology

[edit]
This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (hlyo' "( prn. hro' ) loosen, make lax; lessen, diminish; reduce"). Looks like a derivative of Proto-Sino-Tibetan *g/s-lwat (to free, release, slip), whence Old Chinese (OC *l̥ʰoːd, *l'oːd, “to take off clothes, slip off, escape”). Related to လျှော (hlyau:, to slide)?”
