From Old Georgian აბანო (abano), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *ban- (whence also ბანაობა (banaoba), ბანაობს (banaobs), დაბანა (dabana), დაბანილი (dabanili), განბანა (ganbana), დაიბანა (daibana), დაბანა (dabana), etc.). Cognate with Mingrelian ბონუა (bonua, to wash oneself), აბანა (abana) and Laz ობონუ (obonu, to wash oneself).
