Georgian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle Georgian ბატკანი (baṭḳani). It's hypothesized, that ბა- (ba-) is a prefix to show small age, youngness of something. Possibly, the -ან- (-an-) element is also an affix (cf. ბატკი (baṭḳi)). Compare ბავშვი (bavšvi) and ბარტყი (barṭq̇i).
