Etymology

From Old Georgian იფქლი (ipkli), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *i-pk-l-, possibly from Proto-Kartvelian *pek-, *pk- (to grind) (whence also Georgian ფქვა (pkva) and Svan ფექ (pek)). Cognate with Mingrelian ირქი (irki).
