პილენძი
Old Georgian
Etymology
From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Georgian-Zan *ṗilenʒ₁- (“copper”)[1][2]. Further origin is uncertain. Klimov derives from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *(s)plēnd- (“to shine”) and lists Mingrelian ლინჯი (linǯi), Old Armenian պղինձ (płinj) and Arabic *piliz (“metal”) as cognates[1], but this is rejected by Starostin, who derives the lexeme from a (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "sem" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. source[2].
According to Ačaṙean from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Armenian պղինձ (płinj, “copper”)[3], but this is denied by Klimov, stressing phonetic agreement between the cognates[1].
According to Nicholas Marr and Ivane Javakhishvili from earlier *სპირენძ (*sṗirenʒ), meaning “an ore of სპერი (sṗeri)” (modern İspir)[4].
Svan სპილენძ (sṗilenʒ) (and its forms) is a later Georgian-Zan acquisition[1].
