Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian გრკალი (grḳali), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *grḳ-al- (ring, hoop), a derivative of Proto-Kartvelian *gor- ~ *gr- (to roll, wallow). Cognate with Laz ოკირკოლუ (oǩirǩolu, to roll, twist).
