Etymology

From Old Georgian ჩჩჳლი (ččwili), ჩჳლი (čwili), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *ččw-il- (“soft (of animate objects), tender”), from Proto-Kartvelian *čečw- ~ *ččw- (“to soften”). Cognate with Mingrelian ჩქიჩქუ (čkičku), ჩქჷჩქჷ (čkəčkə), ჩქიჩქი (čkički) and Laz ჩიჩქუ (çiçku), ჩუჩქუ (çuçku).
