From the same root as Arabic شَوَى (šawā), Classical Syriac ܣܘܳܬܳܐ. Less likely related to Hebrew מִזְבֵּחַ.

      wəstä mäkan ḫäbä gäbrä məśwaʿä həyä ḳädimu wäṣäwʿä ʾäbram səmä ʾəgziʾäbḥer bähyä .
      to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord.
