[edit]Inherited from Proto-Ethiopian Semitic *ʾädg. Cognate with Ge'ez አድግ (ʾädg), Tigre አድግ (ʾädg), እድግት (ʾədgət); Tigrinya ኣድጊ (ʾadgi). Sometimes connected with Arabic حِدْج (ḥidj, “burden, load”).
