      • c. 800 BCE – 600 BCE, Homer, Iliad 2.24–25:
        οὐ χρὴ παννύχιον εὕδειν βουλήφορον ἄνδρα
        ᾦ λαοὶ τ’ ἐπιτετράφαται καὶ τόσσα μέμηλε.
        ou khrḕ pannúkhion heúdein boulḗphoron ándra
        ōî laoì t’ epitetráphatai kaì tóssa mémēle.
        A man of counsel, to whom armies are entrusted and who is responsible for such important things, should not sleep all night.
