Etymology

The ending is similar to other bird names, like αἰγυπιός (aigupiós), αἰγωλιός (aigōliós) and χαραδριός (kharadriós). The resemblance with Latin ardea (heron) and Serbo-Croatian róda (stork) cannot be coincidental. According to Beekes, the word could be of Lua error in Module:parameters at line 239: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "pregrc" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF. origin because of the variants.
