Ancient Greek

Etymology

From the Ancient Greek root *ῥευ- (*rheu-), whence ῥέω (rhéō, I flow) (from Proto-Indo-European *srew- (flow)), and -μα (-ma). Compare the related Proto-Indo-European *srowmos, whence also Old English stream. See also ῥυθμός (rhuthmós).
