From Old Javanese waṅśa, from Sanskrit वंश (vaṃśá, offspring, lineage), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wanćás (ceiling beam). Doublet of ꦧꦁꦱ (bangsa) and ꦲꦁꦱ (angsa).
