First attested in the Juja Jeungson Yeossihyang'yak Eonhae (朱子增損呂氏鄕約諺解 / 주자증손여씨향약언해 (of 尊經閣本 / 존경각본)), 1518, as Middle Korean 거러오다 (Yale: keleota). From 걸어 (georeo), infinitive of 걷다 (geotda, “to walk”), and 오다 (oda, “to come”).
