[edit]Reported to be a dialectal form used by the buddhist Jaegaseung communities of Northern Hamgyong, who are speculated to be the descendants of Jurchens. Plausibly 나말 (namal, “Hamgyong dialectal form of 나물 (namul)”) + 이 (-i)
