Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Neung'eomgyeong eonhae (楞嚴經諺解 / 능엄경언해), 1461, as Middle Korean ᄂᆞᄆᆞᆶ (Yale: nòmòlh). Compare 나무 (namu, “tree”).
