Etymology

First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 맞나다 (Yale: macnata). From 맞— (mat-, “to meet; to receive”) + 나— (na-, “to come out”) + —다 (-da, declarative verbal ending).
