[edit]A corruption of 마옵소서 (maopsoseo), a contraction of 하느님 마옵소서 (haneunim maopsoseo, “God forbid!”). First attested in the 20th century.

- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
