Etymology

First recorded in Beonyeok Bak Tongsa(번역박통사, 飜譯朴通事, lit. "The translation of Pak the interpreter"), 1517, as 메유기 (meyugi)

  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
