Also attested in the Bak Tongsa eonhae (朴通事諺解 / 박통사언해), 1677. as ᄲᅣᆷ (spyam), direct origin of the standard form. Compare dialectal forms 뱜 (byam, Central/Gangwon), 빰 (ppam, Hengyeong/Jeolla/Gyeongnam), 뺌 (ppaem, Gyeongbuk/Chungbuk), etc. and Jeju 삐얌 (ppiyam).
