Etymology
First attested in the Beonyeok sohak (飜譯小學 / 번역소학), 1517, as Middle Korean ᄎᆞᆷ새 (Yale: chomsay).. Literally "true bird," from ᄎᆞᆷ (Yale: chom, “true”) + 새 (Yale: sae, “bird”).
