Etymology[edit]
Coined in the 1970s by Korean food company SPC Group, or Samlip (삼립 / 三立). The product is a form of instant 찐빵 (jjinppang). From 호 (ho, “blowing sound”, onomatopoeia) + 빵 (ppang, “bread”).
