Etymology

[edit]

Extremely uncertain; many different etymologies have been proposed (for which see Lehmann 1986, who calls the etymology "massively disputed"), but most agree on at least some link to either πŒ·πŒ΄π‚ (hΔ“r) or the stem of *πŒ·πŒΉπƒ (*his). This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term. don't replace this with a single ety unless there has been recent research since Lehmann which goes into this; as Lehmann's lemma demonstrates, there are multiple plausible explanations.

Interjection

[edit]

πŒ·πŒΉπ‚πŒΉ β€’ (hiri)

  1. (to one person) come (here)! hither!
