Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Turkic *yāĺ (“young, fresh; vegetables”). Cognate with Old Uyghur yʾš (yaš, “fresh, moist”), Karakhanid ياشْ (yāš, “fresh, vegetable”), Turkish yaş (“fresh, wet, moist”), Turkmen ýāş (“young”).
