Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Common Turkic *yïpar (“smell, musk”). Cognate with Turkish yıpar, Bashkir йофар (yofar), Yakut сыбар (sïbar). Compare also Mongolian заарь (zaarʹ), a Turkic borrowing.
