Symbol[edit]

𝼊

  1. (IPA) the forward release of a retroflex click.
(superscript) [𝼊]-coloring or a weak, fleeting or epenthetic [𝼊]-release.
  2. the tenuis velar or sometimes uvular retroflex click, [k𝼊 ] or [q𝼊 ]

Usage notes[edit]

Technically, ⟨𝼊⟩ is only the forward clicked release, not the entire consonant. A full transcription of a click consonant requires a second letter to specify whether the rear closure is velar or uvular, and whether the click is voiced or nasal:

Velar Uvular
Voiceless k͜𝼊 q͜𝼊
Voiced ɡ͜𝼊 ɢ͜𝼊
Nasal ŋ͜𝼊 ɴ͜𝼊

The tie bar may be omitted, and the accompanying letter may be superscripted.

If the order is reversed, e.g. ⟨𝼊͜q⟩, that may imply that the velar or uvular release is audible (delayed release).
