Borrowed from Old Anatolian Turkish, being a compound of حسین ([Imam] Husayn) +‎ Old Anatolian Turkish قلی (the possessed form of قل (slave)), literally slave of [Imam] Husayn; compare Azerbaijani Hüseynqulu, Chagatai حسین‌قلی, Turkish Hüseynkulu.
