Russian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Extended form of -еский (-eskij), probably extracted by rebracketing from cases where this suffix was added to nouns ending in к (k), which was then palatalized to ч (č) in the Slavic first palatalization.

Pronunciation[edit]
