Etymology

From Italian -eggiare, and probably intended to resemble -igi.[1]

  1. to become
    ruĝa (red) + ‎-iĝi → ‎ruĝiĝi (to blush)
  2. to change in state
    stari (to be standing) + ‎-iĝi → ‎stariĝi (to stand up).
  3. makes intransitive verbs out of transitive ones
    komenci (to begin, transitive verb) + ‎-iĝi → ‎komenciĝi (to begin, intransitive verb)
    La spegulo rompiĝis.The mirror broke.
